Mallorca Without a Car: Where to Stay and What to Budget
Plan a car-free Mallorca holiday around a workable base, airport transport and realistic day trips. Compare the full cost before choosing a cheaper room.
Choose the base before comparing room rates
For a first car-free trip, compare a base in Palma with one in the resort where you intend to spend most days. A lower room rate is less useful if it adds two connections every morning. Put the exact accommodation address into the transport planner and check the walk from the stop, luggage access and your arrival time.
A Palma base suits a plan built around the city and selected excursions. A resort base may suit repeated beach days better. A remote property or a different cove every day requires a much closer timetable check; do not assume the island has a frequent service to every address.
Compare three ways to organise the trip
Price the same travellers and dates. A day without a car still has transport costs, while a rental also needs fuel, parking and collection time. Keep refundable deposits outside the final spending total.
| Plan | Often suits | Costs and checks |
|---|---|---|
| Palma base + public transport | City time and selected outings | Airport journey, local fares and the last connection |
| Resort base + public transport | Several days in one area | Access to your beach, evening services and any excursions |
| Public transport + one private transfer | A late arrival or difficult final leg | Whole-vehicle quote, waiting conditions and luggage capacity |
Plan the airport journey and payment method
EMT route A1 links Palma Airport with Palma centre. For a different base, check the current EMT or TIB journey planner rather than automatically travelling through the centre. Save the stop name and a workable backup if your flight arrives late.
Payment rules differ: on TIB buses, use the same card or device at boarding and alighting; EMT Palma requires validation on boarding. Read the linked group-travel rules before using one card for several people. Do not assume resident travel concessions apply to a visitor.
A manageable three-night outline
Arrival: go to your base and keep the first evening local. First full day: group Palma sightseeing together. Second full day: choose one excursion with a confirmed outward and return connection, or stay near your base. Departure: allow for reaching the stop, waiting and your airline’s airport-arrival guidance.
This is a planning outline, not a timed itinerary. Check the actual service date and the last useful return before booking an activity away from your base.
Compare a room saving with extra journeys
Illustrative calculation, not an offer: saving €20 a night over three nights saves €60. If the alternative location adds €18 of transport on each of three days, the net saving is only €6, before valuing the extra travel time. Use your own quotes for the actual party and dates.
Enter accommodation, airport transport, local travel and daily spending in the holiday budget calculator. Before payment, check local accommodation charges, cancellation terms and the transport plan again.
Can I see all of Mallorca without a car?
Build the itinerary around places with suitable connections. A compact base-and-day-trip plan is more realistic than assuming every remote stop will fit your dates.
Is a rental always more expensive?
No. Compare the full party cost, route and time. Include fuel and parking in the rental option and every needed connection in the public-transport option.
